Spring into Action - Outdoor Activities in Plano

Outdoor Activities and Destinations in Plano

With the epic freeze and temperatures that have kept us indoors through the winter, everyone’s gunning to get back out and take advantage of warmer weather. As spring approaches, it’s time to start planning ideas to get your family back in the sun and in nature. To get you started, take a look at some of the best warm outdoor activities and destinations for family fun in Plano.

Downtown Plano

Historic Downtown Plano is full of unique shops and galleries, as well as excellent restaurants and cafes. In addition, the area is fully restored, with an outdoor stage venue where special events are frequently held. Urban living surrounds the historic Haggard Park as well as the Plano Station Dart Rail stop and the Interurban Railway Museum. Enjoy spring and activities, with local vendors joining all the festivities.

Go Ape Treetop Adventure

Traipse through the trees with rope ladders, staircases, and swinging bridges at Go Ape Treetop Adventure. Check out the free drop Tarzan swings, if you dare. And when you’ve conquered the adventure, zip line back to the ground, with the longest zip line measuring over 400 feet. Go Ape Treetop Adventures also offers axe throwing, the leap of faith at the Monkey Drop, and guided journeys for first-timers to get their balance in the trees.

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve

Stretching across 200 acres in West Plano, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve offers a variety of trails for walking, hiking, and jogging, as well as bike riding. The beauty is diverse, as is the wildlife, which includes everything from birds and insects to snakes and even signs of coyotes. It’s a great place for family outings, individual exercise, or team building activities.

Heritage Farmstead Museum

The living, working functionality of the Heritage Farmstead Museum offers fun, educational activities that explore the history of life on the Blackland Prairies. Tours are available, and there are frequent special events scheduled. View thousands of objects used between 1890 and 1920 in the North Texas area, as well as exhibits of active farm life on the prairies.

Bob Woodruff Park

East Plano offers the beauty of Bob Woodruff Park, formerly the site of the Plano Balloon Festival. The playground caters to children of all ages, and the trail around Bob Woodruff lake is marked for easily tracking exercise and activity. There’s a fishing pier, a sand volleyball court, and trails into the surrounding woods to enjoy. For a large family event, reserve the pavilion, which provides shelter and seating, as well as close proximity to the restrooms.
